Week 266

0.6lb loss

Not as much as last week, although it is still in a downward direction, so it wasn't just a blip.

A faultless week this week and I've even cut sugar out of my coffee the past few days. At the moment it still tastes like vile poison, but I'm hoping my tastebuds will get used to it soon.

At some point soon I will cut out the coffee too. Then, hopefully I will have removed all up-and-drop habits from my life, but I'm not ready just yet.

With the CFS I miss that feeling awake, feeling alive that I only get now for 45 minutes or so after my 2 coffees a day. My hope is once the caffeine is completely out my system my body will naturally adjust so I won't just feel knackered the entire day.

But to be honest, I'm quite fearful - what if it means I don't ever feel properly awake or alive again?

Starting Weight: 19st 9lb - 275lbs
Current Weight: 13st 0.8lb - 182.8lbs
Body fat: 24.9%
Total Weight Loss: 92.2lbs

I use a Stevia supplement (natural plant extract) for sweetness. And de-caf tea can be helpful. Constant Comment makes a nice one, and there are several herbal blends that feel good and are good for you.

As for feeling awake, I understand. I have one cup of coffee a day, and nothing else with caffeine in it.

I have Epstein-Barr (CFS) too, and I take a nap every afternoon. As long as I get 8 hours of sleep each night, I tend to do OK.

I cannot remember the last time I got 8 hours sleep. 5 is an average. However I went to a sleep clinic over a year ago, but nothing showed up and I do all the usualy things (not eating late, not having a tv in the room etc)

I found it really hard to drop caffeine from my diet. My caffeine came from diet pop, but I used to consume more of it than most people drink coffee.

I personally found caffeine very addictive.... but obviously not in the same way as other substances.

When I dropped caffeine from my diet, I had pretty bad headaches from the withdrawal. I was also somewhat moody as well.

It might help to eliminate the coffee but control your caffeine intake through the use of caffeine pills, to gradually ween yourself off the effect it has on your energy/dependence.

Once in a blue moon I still have a glass..... but I enjoy it so more now and I don't chug it like a glass of water.

If you find you have less energy without caffeine than with it, and don't feel at all better in other ways, you can always reinstate the coffee. And jolly well done on the weight loss. Means you can relax a bit over Easter?

BryGuy - I'll stay off the caffeine pills - when I was a teenager a friend & I decided we'd try and get a high by taking about 6 of them. What we didn't know was caffeine is a diuretic, so we kept needing to go for a pee, even when we were on completely empty. It then just got really painful so I spent the next few hours just dringing pont after pint of water, so I'd have something to piss out every 5 minutes. Never again!

Z - I'm afraid I can't relax over Easter - chocolate is an absolute no-go at the moment. In order to try and kill off excessive yeast I cannot have any kind of sugar for the next wee while :(

Twice the Man - the weight loss has not been so consistent - I reached the 100lb barrier over 2 years ago, but then managed to put 25lbs back on. It's only in the past 6 months I've started heading down again. However, I'll accept the compliment for the consistent blogging - thank you :) It's the reason I only regained 25lbs rather than 100lbs over the past 2 years
