2lb loss!
Woohoo! It works! The system works! I DO know what I'm doing. Stay on track for the week and the results show. And considering my activity levels have been only slightly above zero I have even more to be pleased about.
OK, of course my system of focusing on healthy eating works, otherwise I wouldn't have lost 89lbs or been able to keep going for almost 18 months. But every time I put on a pound or two, even though it's because I caved in to the old eating patterns, there's always a slight fear before I stand on the scales that maybe it won't have worked this time.
You'd think it would get easier.
Actually, it is considerably easier than when I first started, but I don't know whether it will ever cease to be a problem altogether.
Starting Weight: 19st 9lb – 275lbs
Current Weight: 13st 4lb – 186lbs
KoTRB Weight Lost : 24lb
Total Weight Loss: 89lbs
Still here.. really I am - 4 years an 9 month later

Well done kim, I'm clapping. I was out all sodding day working and talking to idiots, so this is a very good piece of news indeed.
Thanks FMC. Hope you don't have too many idiots to deal with tomorrow
Congrats! Another good week!
I don't know if you're interested in things like this, but I'm a bit of a health nut, and I like to know exactly what I'm eating. This happens to be one of the best sites I've found on the internet, and I thought you might like it.

In general I don't look too much at detailed breakdowns or get involved in counting every calorie, but rely on common sense. We know fruit and veg is good for you, processed foods aren't, and I try to keep my dairy products and wheat to a minimum - these are the basic rules if you like.
However, the site you mention does look very interesting and I appreciate you pointing to it.
I like that site personally because they tell you if you're getting enough of specific nutrients (amino acids, essential fatty acids, vitamins, etc). But like I said, I'm a health nut, so this caters to my taste. Your plan sounds very good, and more importantly, it's working for you. The biggest rule in getting anything done is to do what you enjoy, so you'll stick to it. Congrats again, by the way.
The question has to be: if I was to eat this way for the rest of my life, would it be difficult? If the answer is no, then you have to be on the right track
Great job! I am so impressed with your willpower and dedication to this total life change. You are an inspiration.
Great job.
"Stay on track for the week." Yaaaay for you. Even without the weight loss, that would be a good accomplishment. The weight loss is the logical result of the healthful choices you are making.
For me, hopefully today will be the first day of an on track week for me.
I like the photo of you in the water.
Mama C - welcome to Losing a Hundredweight and thanks for taking the time to comment. With that kind of praise you're welcome back anytime :)
Sir Squishy - thanks
Arlene - The photo was from our recent holiday. There's more about that photo on my main blog here:

Kim, I'm clapping in Seattle!!
I just dropped the diet towel myself. Screw the shit about 30 pounds in 30 days or some other such nonesense.
Your introductory blog essay stated EXACXTLY what I've heard every other success story, in person, on paper, online....to lose weight permanently the numbers are a guage, not a goal. The ultimate goal must be to change your life, permanently.
Goddam I was not ready for this fact for the longest time, not until I reached a weight where I'm so uncomfortable I feel as though I'm in someone else's body, and no longer able to run.
Time to change. Permanently. And it's about changing my relationship to food, permanently, not about the latest South Beach whatever or Atkins bladeebla. It's about knowing yourself and changing yourself and taking your life back to be overall more healthy. Pants shcmants, that's literally the icing on the cake.
Personally, I look forward to doing all the things I cannot do right now because I am not at a healthy weight.
CONGRATULATIONS. And thanks for the reinforcements. And you can bet when I'm healthy enough I'll be coming to your side of the pond for some of those amazing, breathtaking hikes available up there in the highlands.
Good for you! I have been losing weight since January and at this point I am down 51 lbs. While it is easier now than it was then, I don't really think it will ever be second nature. I do think that the reason it is working this time is that I refuse to do anything that I couldn't do for the rest of my life. I look at this as a way of life this time.

Alice - welcome to Losing a Hundredweight and thank you for taking the time to write such a personal comment.
Finding the right time is always such a strange thing becasue on the one hand there never is a right time - we can always find an excuse as to why we should leave it until a future point - yet we do need to reach a point where we are able to make the commitment. Looking back I can see that if I'd tried to do what I have a year earlier I would have failed completely.
TC - I agree completely - it has to be a way of life. I'm impressed with your approach and have now linked to your site from my sidebar
