Week 121

1.4lb loss!

This takes me back to where I was 2 weeks ago again.

Since March 26th I've constantly moved about within 174lbs and 176lbs, so I have to conclude that this is my settled weight unless I make any drastic changes, such as giving in to the cravings again, or upping my activity levels.

Starting Weight: 19st 9lb - 275lbs
Current Weight: 12st 6lb - 174lbs
Body fat: 22.5%
Total Weight Loss: 101lbs

Go with the latter. I'm just back from the gym so I don't have the energy to advise anything else. Now if you'll excuse me I must go and eat something before I vomit up the lining of my stomach.

I would love to up the activity levels, but as time is going on I'm getting worn out more and more easily. I'm tired so often that I'm in much more of an energy conservation mode these days.

Perhaps this is the weight you are meant to be. 174 sounds like a pretty small person (male person, that is). Me? I can't wait to be 174 - and then keep going!

I'm about 5 feet 6 or 7 inches (depending on the time of day I check my height), which means I'm still somewhere between 16 and 25lbs overweight, but I'm not unhappy with 174lbs

Platueas (sp?) are no fun. From what I have read, they are times for us to evaluate ourselves again. Look at our eating habits and exericise habits...maybe even journal. You probably do that already, I am just speaking in general. The other thing is to cross train. If you are a runner, try biking a couple of days instead.

-Just some thoughts from what I have read...not from experience which you have.

Well, it's not a horrible weight to settle at. Especially considering where you're coming from. From a health perspective, what you've done has considerably reduced your risks for a number of obesity related ailments. And so long as you're eating healthy, and not sedentary, then that's a healthy way to live.

So don't sweat the weight right now if you don't want to. Like you always tell me, focus on the health :)

Half Man - the main problem is lack of energy to up my activity levels, rather than boredom or lack of motivation (see my latest post CFASon my main site).

FLG - I'm not too worried about my weight now - as I mentioned last week, I can't complain about this weight considering where I was.

I certainly relate to the lack of energy thing. Really, Kim, you have done a major and fantastic thing. I think settling into your current weight and constantly acknowledging your achievement to yourself is the way to go. Maintenance is challenging enough without pushing yourself beyond limits with which you are comfortable. Also, if you want to go for that final 16 to 25 lbs. (or only 3 or 4 of it) you can do so at any time. It is summer now and I bet you are looking very good.

Don't judge yourself by the height-weight ratio charts. Use waist-hip ratio (WHR). Measure your hips and waist.

Divide your waist measurement by your hip measurement - for men - if the ratio is 0.9 or less, you are fit. (For women, use 0.7.)

Yikes! That CFAS must be frustrating. We like to think medical science can diagnose anything, but in my experience, there is a lot of things that go undiagnosed or misdiagnosed. Sometimes, these things just go away on their own and the doctors have no idea why. I hope things turn out for you. Regardless, everyone is right. You have nothing to be ashamed of. Losing 100 lbs. is a great accomplishment.

Arlene - "maintenance" is perhaps a bit misleading. In the end what I will be doing is what I've been doing all along, which is make the healthy choices when it comes to food and allow my body to settle where it will. I think I just have to accept that it's probably settling here, around 175. And although 175 is still overweight, it's nothing like as bad as 275.

Anonymous - BMI is a useful rough guide when you are very overweight, but isn't much use once you get below a certain level as it fails to take into account fitness and body fat.

I hadn't heard about the waist-hip ratio before now, however, so thank you for that and I'll look into it :)

Half Man - thanks :)
